PLRLL General Meeting 01/28/2016

  • Meeting called to order at 9:10 by Mike C
  • Review of board member updates/introductions
    • Vinnie Stigliano-Safety Officer
    • Mike DiPrenda-Recording Secretary
    • Introduced Lucy Stigliano who is spearheading fundraising opportunities.
  • John K reviewed player evaluations dates-March 5 and 6
    • Dates are posted on PLRLL.com and will be held in the PLHS gym.
    • Concerns were raised over Girl Scout and cheer events scheduled on March 6 conflicting with softball evaluations.
    • Joe K is working with PLBOE to try and schedule an earlier time on 3/6 for softball evaluations.
  • Jason P discussed separate softball divisions emphasizing the final decision will depend on the final number of sign-ups prior to 2/21/16
    • Minor softball needs minimum of 30 girls for 3 team minimum.  
    • Consideration will be given to partnering with additional towns/districts in the county to increase competition and opportunity for the girls to develop their skills if the there are enough players to build a minor division.
    • Decision cannot be made until final sign-ups are calculated.
    • Farm softball can succeed with smaller teams-approximately 7-8 girls per team.
      • Hoping for 40 girls to make additional teams.  
    • If all 3 divisions exist (Farm/Minor/Major) then Willow will be available to accommodate the additional softball games.  
  • Walter P provided treasury report:
    • Approximately  8o in person sign-up and 40 online as of 1/28.
    • Beginning balance-xxxx
    • xxxx was spent of the candy fundraiser
    • LL dues have been paid for the 2016 season

      • Waiting for income from sponsors
  • John K reviewed volunteer applications-no need to photo ID if returning as coach/volunteer
  • Mike D reviewed parade/opening day status-April 9th
    • Parade approved by town, waiting for approval from Chamber of COmmerce and Passaic County Freeholders.
  • Mike C indicated pictures expected for opening day at high school, time to be confirmed with Bishop Photo.
  • Lucy S and Vinnie S reviewed fundraising at Pizza1, Wendy’s and signs.  
    • Possible fundraiser with Rockland Boulders-portion of ticket price is given to PLRLL as fundraiser.
    • Considering using the local fund raiser as a way to subsidize individual cost-bring back receipt of attending and get a discount.  also helps to monitor utilization.
  • An update on field maintenance was requested.  
    • Joe K reviewed field plans:
      • Current plan is for Joe Black to be updated to look like Willow field with a goal of improving drainage.  This plan is not finalized
      • Updates to Joe Black are dependant on sprinkler installation and are likely to occur after 2016 season.  
      • Don Jenkins field is OK, foul ball nets will be installed during field care day.
        • Nets have already been purchased so no additional cost is expected.   
      • PLRLL has the opportunity to construct additional fields at the Joe Grill complex, new field layout plans have been submitted to the  Mayor for review.
  • Inquiry was made as to the availability of independence fields
    • PLRLL will have access to fields for practice/games.  
    • Riverdale Field OK for softball
  • Next general meeting on Feb 25 at 8PM.
